MOO
We have a new science experiment going on down here this year being run out of the University of Oregon. It's called MOO or McMurdo Oceanographic Observatory. There is a camera 70 feet below the ice out near our sea water intake pipe to watch the sea life in real time. One of the things I have to maintain is the kiosk machine here where people can walk by and watch the live video. There is also a microphone down there with the camera so you can hear seals making their crazy noises sometimes when you walk by the kiosk, it's really pretty cool.
Here is a Youtube video showing it being setup and a little information about it.
If you want to see the live images yourself you can see them here. www.moo-antarctica.net
It says "live" but the images are updated every 5 minutes. So I guess that's live, but not real time like the kiosk we have here is. There is also an audio page where you can listen to some of the wild sounds the seals make. These are the same sounds I could hear from under the ice when I went under it in the OB Tube my first time I came down here.
